Streptococcus Mutans
The first type of bad germ that resides in the mouth is Streptococcus Mutans. It is a type of mouth bacteria that thrives and flourishes on starchy and foods with a high-content of sugar and fructose contained in them. Streptococcus Mutans is the main contributor to tooth-decay because it generates acids which slowly erode the tooth’s enamel.
Porphyromonas Gingivalis
The second type of germ resides in the mouth and can predominantly lead to a major mouth disease referred to as periodontitis. It’s called Porphyromonas Gingivalis. It is a very serious oral disease, although it’s not as prominent of a bacteria as Streptococcus Mutans. This is because this oral disease progressively affects the main bone structures and tissues that support the gums and teeth. The severity of Porphyromonas Gingivalis can lead to eventual tooth loss and intense chronic tooth pain.
Importance of Good Oral Hygiene and Healthy Diet
In order to manage and control the germs which are present in your mouth, good oral hygiene is imperative. Dentists recommend that you brush your teeth after meals and snacks or at least 3 times minimum per day. Do this in addition to flossing 2 times a day, and using mouthwash regularly. It is also best if you have your teeth cleaned and examined two times per year as a preventative method against negative oral health.
You can also take precautions from bad germs and tooth decay by consuming a healthy diet with good, healthy foods. Also, avoid sugar and too much starch and carbonated beverages. All of these good dental practices will help manage the bacteria in your mouth. This will also help you prevent and protect your teeth against adverse health issues.
